SSL Report - Secure Sockets Layer

What does SSL Report mean?

Have you ever used your web browser and noticed a green lock next to the website URL? That lock signifies that you are on an SSL-compliant website. «SSL» stands for secure sockets layer and is a security measure that encrypts sensitive data on different websites. SSL Labs is an organization that offers comprehensive testing and reporting detailing how organizations are handling SSL on their client-facing websites and internal servers.

How is SSL Report compliance determined?

There isn’t actually an official set of compliance rules in order to become SSL Report-certified. Qualys SSL Labs uses an online diagnostic test that looks at the status of your overall SSL setup. This test grades your servers with a sliding letter grade scale and generates recommendations on how to improve your score after the test is complete. There aren’t any penalties enforced if you receive a bad score. However, a poor SSL certificate setup can lead to potential sanctions under other compliance regulations such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, PIPEDA and more.
