TaxDome is an all-in-one practice solution for tax and accounting firms. An important part of our product is workflow. Because of that, we are sometimes asked ‘How does TaxDome compare with GetNetSet?’
This post is not your traditional feature vs feature type of comparison (although we will get that out of the way too). Rather, the goal here is to provide an insight into the philosophy behind each product.
GetNetSet got their start in the mid 00s as the «Maine Internet Marketing Services & Search Engine Optimization». They specialized in making simple cookie-cutter websites and SEO — a way to rank higher than your competitors on Google search. This was a sound strategy in the early days of the internet when simply having a website already set you apart from the competition and stuffing it with keywords guaranteed showing up in top Google results.
There is only one problem — the world has moved on. The business model of putting out identical content across hundreds of websites simply does not work. Google is a trillion dollar company that invests billions of dollars in research and development — they will know when your site is a duplicate of a hundred others and treat it accordingly.
This is the fundamental issue with companies that promise to write fresh web content for $50 or $100 per month — while you will get new content it will be anything but original and, therefore, essentially useless.
But let’s assume that you no longer aspire to rank on the first page of Google and simply want to have a website that you can be proud of. What should be your focus — having articles about the latest IRS mileage rates or a world class client portal that your clients will love? Should you spend $600 a year trying to outwit Google?
This gets us to the fundamental difference between the two companies — GetNetSet focuses on giving you a Wordpress site with annually updated articles (essentially an online shingle to advertise your services) while TaxDome’s focus is the actual system for you to work with your clients online. That includes a best in class client portal, unlimited secure document storage, electronic signatures with KBA, mobile app, secure messaging and much more.
TaxDome offers two pricing plans — $600 per year per user for growing firms and $300 per year for solopreneurs with unlimited storage, clients, e-signatures and free training.
GetNetSet has a number of price plans — $360 for a website limited to 7 pages, $600 per year for a website with 2gb of storage and $1,200 per year for a website with SEO advice.
In the spirit of full transparency, we should mention what you won’t be able to have with TaxDome. Namely — regularly updated website content, newsletters and social media posts.
Walt Disney once said «Whatever you do — do it well». And it’s simply not possible to scale creation of original content to hundreds or thousands of firms. But if you don’t mind having exactly the same content as your competitors, it is a reasonable product for the aforementioned task.
Yes — if you have an existing website with GetNetSet, we can move it over to TaxDome for you.
